Welcome Home

Washed by the Word Church

Washed by the Word is a non-denominational Christian church that strives to see people come to a saving faith in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Come join us and share in the love of Jesus as we learn more of Him walking through the Word of God together!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to teach and live out the principles found in the Bible, helping individuals grow in their faith and become more like Christ through the transformative power of God’s Word. We emphasize the importance of sanctification and cleansing through the Word, as reflected in Ephesians 5:26.

we Believe...

We believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God and that all Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable in all the areas of our life as stated in II Timothy 3:16-17.

We believe that the Bible is the complete revelation of God’s plan for salvation and that faith in Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His crucifixion and resurrection…is the only way to be saved from the certain judgment promised by God upon all who have sinned.

We believe that this saving faith is a gift from God as we read in Ephesians 2:8.

We believe, based on Romans 10:17, that this gift of faith comes from hearing, and hearing comes from the Word of God.

A message from the pastor

Dear Friend,

What a joy it is that you’ve found your way to our website! Whether you’re new to Albuquerque, searching for a church home, or simply curious about what we’re all about, please know that you are warmly welcomed here.

My name is Kon Tweeten, and I have the incredible privilege of serving as the pastor of this wonderful community of believers. When we chose the name “Washed by the Word,” we wanted to capture the heart of what happens here – lives are transformed, hearts are healed, and hope is renewed through God’s Word and His amazing love.

I know that visiting a new church can feel a little overwhelming, especially if it’s been a while since you’ve been in a church setting. Please don’t worry about having all the right answers or knowing exactly what you believe. We’re all on this journey together, learning and growing in faith, and there’s room for you exactly as you are right now.

At Washed by the Word, you’ll find people from all walks of life – young families, college students, empty nesters, and everyone in between. What unites us isn’t our backgrounds or our circumstances, but our shared desire to know Jesus more deeply and to support one another through life’s joys and challenges.

Our Sunday services are relaxed and welcoming. You can expect heartfelt worship, practical Bible teaching, and genuine community. Come as you are – whether that’s jeans and sneakers or your Sunday best. What matters to us is your heart, not your outfit.

I’d love to meet you personally when you visit. Please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself after the service. I’m here to answer any questions you might have and to help you feel at home in our church family.

Thank you for considering Washed by the Word as a place to explore faith and find community. We can’t wait to meet you and walk alongside you in your spiritual journey.

Blessings and warm regards,

Pastor Kon
Washed by the Word Church

P.S. – If you’re still feeling nervous about that first visit, know that our greeters will be watching for new faces and are ready to help you feel welcome from the moment you walk through our doors. You’ve got this, and we’ve got you!

What to Expect

come as you are...

Our Sunday morning services are designed to be welcoming and meaningful, lasting about 90 minutes from start to finish. We begin each service with 30 minutes of heartfelt worship, followed by brief announcements that keep you connected with our church family.

The heart of our morning is an hour-long, verse-by-verse Bible teaching that helps make God’s Word practical and applicable to daily life.

Please come exactly as you are – our dress code is completely casual, and you’ll feel comfortable whether you’re in jeans or business attire. We want you to focus on worship, not on what you’re wearing.

Children are warmly welcomed throughout our service, with age-appropriate Bible lessons designed specifically for them, while older children are always welcome to sit with their parents in the main service.

For those seeking a more intimate worship experience, our Sunday evening services offer a different atmosphere where chairs are arranged in a circle, creating the feel of a home Bible study where deeper discussion and prayer can flourish.

Worship Team

Welcome, Families!

If you’re considering visiting Washed by the Word with your children, we want you to know that families are at the heart of everything we do here. When you walk through our doors for the first time, you can expect a warm welcome where both you and your kids will feel genuinely valued and cared for.

Your children will experience age-appropriate, engaging Bible lessons filled with interactive storytelling, hands-on activities, and worship that’s designed just for them – learning about Jesus has never been more fun!

We believe strongly in partnering with parents like you to help children develop a deep and lasting relationship with Jesus Christ, creating opportunities not just for spiritual growth, but for your kids to practice generosity and compassion through community service projects.

Don’t hesitate to bring the whole family – we’re excited to meet you and show your children just how much God loves them through creative, joyful, and meaningful experiences that will have them asking when they can come back!

Questions?

Logistics & Visit Planning

“Come as you are.” There is no dress code. Think modest and comfortable, casual or business. You will see a mix of casual and dressy.

Bible (paper or digital). If you use your phone as your digital Bible app, please ensure it is silenced.

Notebook and pen if you like to jot down notes or Scripture verses.

10-15 minutes early – This gives you time to find parking and settle in before worship starts.

Park in the lot in front of the church or in the lot directly across the street from the church and use the main entrance. There is also limited parking behind the building. If you park in this lot, enter through the back door to the building.

90 minutes, which includes worship, announcements, sermon, and closing worship. Once a month we gather in the Fellowship Hall for a potluck after the Sunday morning service.

No, we do not pass an offering tray. There is an offering box near the entrance for those who choose to give, so giving can be done privately. There are also digital options available for giving

Worship is Contemporary Christian Music led by the Worship Leader and the Worship Team. The lyrics are projected on a screen, which allows the congregation to worship as the Worship Team leads us into the presence of God. You are welcome to stand during worship, raise your hands, clap, sway… The worship is casual and heartfelt. It is meant to help people feel close to God in a personal way. You are also welcome to remain more reserved if that is comfortable for you. All teachings are centered on Jesus through Expository Bible Teaching. We go through the Bible Book by Book, Chapter by Chapter and Verse by Verse ending in Practical Takeaways.

New King James Version (NKJV), but you are welcome to use the translation you’re comfortable with.

We are an Independent, Non-Denomination, Expository Bible Teaching Church, simply teaching The Word of God simply.

Baptism is an act of obedience following the example of Jesus, who was baptized and following His command in Matthew 28:19-20. It is an outward expression of an inward faith. It does not save you, but it is a public declaration that you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. It is also a Symbolic Act of dying to your old life (by being fully immersed under water) and rising again to a new life in Christ (coming out of the water).

Refer to “We Believe” section at the top of the page.

Communion is a remembrance of Jesus’ sacrifice for us. His words in Luke 22:19 commands “Do this in remembrance of ME.” It is a time to reflect, remember, and refocus on the cross and God’s grace. We take communion monthly using small crackers and small individual cups of grape juice. The cracker represents the body of Christ. The grape juice represents His blood shed for our sins.

Practical Concerns

Children & Family

When you arrive, there will be greeters at the front door to direct you to the Children’s Ministry. Each child is checked in on the computer. The computer generates a name tag and the name tag is applied to each child for identification.

Nothing, unless there is something specifically they need during their time in the Children’s Ministry. Qualified teachers focus on “Age Appropriate” sharing of the word of God through Worship, Bible Lessons, and Story Telling. The teaching is enhanced through arts and crafts. The children are given snacks. Please inform the teacher if your child has food allergies.

10-15 minutes before service will allow you to get your children checked in, and find a place to sit.

Children and Youth Programs include community Outreach, Skate Night the last Tuesday of the month, Youth Worship Night the last Friday of every month and a summer trip
Can I keep my children with me during the service?

We provide age-specific classes where children learn Bible stories, sing songs, and do activities at their level. If you prefer, your children can stay with you in the sanctuary. We ask that you take them to the children’s area if they become fussy and restless.

Following an interview, those serving in Children’s Ministry must pass a criminal background check, commit to never being alone with a child and follow check-in/check-out procedures to ensure the children’s safety.

There are changing tables in the nursery.

We ask that you take them to the children’s area if they become fussy and restless.

Connection & Community

Arrive a little early or stay afterward…linger in the coffee area and lobby. That’s often when people chat and make connections.

We have Home Bible Studies and there are a number of adult Learning classes. Information about the classes is available in the “Adult Learning” section.

At Washed By The Word, we do not have a formal membership process like some other churches. We believe that being part of this church family isn’t about signing a document – it’s about being a part of the body of Christ and growing together in faith. If you attend regularly, serve, give and connect in fellowship, you’re already part of our church family. We welcome everyone who wants to grow in Jesus and be part of what God is doing here.

There are serving opportunities for every personality and gift. They include Greeters/Ushers, Sound/Media Team, Worship Team, /Nursery/Children’s Ministry, Visitation ministry, Transportation Ministry, Fellowship Hall Hospitality Ministry.

Next Steps

Yes, see the Adult Learning link under Ministries.

There are many areas to serve, whether it’s greeting, ushering, worship, children’s ministry or other areas. Serving begins with the heart. Pray and ask God for direction on where He’s calling you to use the gifts He has given you, then notify the office of your interest and the office staff will connect you with the appropriate person.
